The Two Cycles of Evolution

The fundamental principle guiding our development, as well as our aspiration to evolve, is that our growth unfolds through two interconnected processes: the development of consciousness and the development of superconsciousness. By studying the energies these processes impart, we can gain insights into every facet of our Life experience

The existence of all lifeforms is controlled by two parallel evolutionary processes. These govern everything from the growth of single-cell organisms to the evolution of beings that are far more advanced than us. Both evolutionary processes can be divided into seven periods, but the evolution of the superconscious always remains half a development period further ahead compared to the ‘conscious evolution’ (Figure 4).

Figure 4. The evolution of humankind through 2 evolutions

Our development can be divided into two processes of evolution, the conscious and superconscious evolution. Each of these, in turn, can be divided into specific development periods. The superconscious evolution is always half a development period further ahead compared to the conscious evolution.

1. What is consciousness?

Before describing the two evolutionary processes, I will first explain what I mean by the word consciousness. This is important to the rest of the book.

Throughout all development periods, consciousness is present, but its expression varies. Currently, your consciousness allows you to differentiate yourself from your environment and to acknowledge your unique individuality. In a previous development period, your consciousness manifested itself in a way that allowed you to perceive the group you belonged to, without recognizing your individuality. In the forthcoming Heart period, you will gain the ability to be aware of both yourself and humanity, of which you are a part.

This implies a shift in consciousness from ‘I am the group’ to ‘I am a unique being’ to ‘I am a unique being, and part of humanity’.

Therefore, consciousness has diverse expressions, and it’s crucial to understand that consciousness is a life principle, focused on enhancing your ability to perceive life.

Often, consciousness is defined as “self-awareness”. It’s also described as “experiencing, or being aware of, something”. In the latter definition, the term “experience” is worth noting. To experience is to demonstrate an ability to perceive life.

Our current understanding of consciousness involves experiencing, being aware of the experience, and realizing that you are the one experiencing. There is the one who experience, and there is that which is being experienced, and you are (partially) aware of both.

Looking back at previous development periods, we were able to experience, but we weren’t as aware of the experiencer as we are now. Was there consciousness then? The answer is no if consciousness requires awareness of the experiencer, but yes if consciousness is a a perception of life.

Consider a being who has achieved full Heart consciousness. This being might argue that we lack awareness of our true selves, and suggest that we are indeed ‘unconscious’. Similarly, we might argue that a being in the Pre-Ego or Root period lacks consciousness. I find that both statements are inaccurate, and that it is important to view ‘consciousness’ from a broader perspective.

So, consider ‘consciousness’ as your ability to perceive life, and ‘self-consciousness’ as your ability to perceive yourself.

Even in the absence of the latter, the former (and therefore consciousness) still exists.

Your consciousness is instilled with a will-to-life, which forms its foundation and mirrors your current stage in your journey.

At this stage, you are able to experience yourself as a distinct individual, and this presents you with new opportunities to perceive life.

2. Our connection to the two evolutions

The human development structure (at our current stage) can be broadly divided into the consciousness, subconsciousness, and a ‘higher’ element that we are not conscious of, which I refer to as the “superconscious”.

These three components of our personality form our sensory apparatus, tailored to our current stage of development. During other periods, we engage with different sensory apparatuses. For instance, our subconscious is only a part of our development structure during the Pre-Ego and Ego periods. I will elaborate on this below, where you will see that in the latter half of the Heart period, the subconscious ceases to exist.

Both the consciousness/subconsciousness and the superconscious are continuously evolving.

Your subconscious changes when your consciousness manages to breach its barrier and shed light on some of the structures in it, such as complexes or traumas.

In a sense, when we confront the complexes and ‘release’ them, we bring a part of ourselves ‘home’ to our consciousness, thereby altering both the consciousness and the subconsciousness.

Thus, our consciousness continuously transforms the subconscious and is itself transformed in the process.

Our consciousness interacts with life through the development structure, or what I also refer to as “the personal development structures”. An example of such a structure is your current psyche. You can consider this structure as your sensory organ to life. The superconscious also interacts with life, but through the “sensory organs” that reside in the superconscious (Figure 5). In this way, you possess multiple “sensory organs”, all of which contribute to your overall Life experience.

In Figure 6, you can see the two evolutionary processes and the associated development structures. You can see that each of the development periods is linked to its own development structure, which ensures that we progress through the period.

Figure 5.  The personal development structure of man and the processes of evolution.

The personal development structure of a person can be divided into the superconscious, conscious, and subconscious.  The superconscious is in contact with the superconscious evolution through sensory organs (star), and consciousness is in contact with the conscious evolution through the conscious Life experience (spiral). The subconscious, on the other hand, is influenced by both the superconscious and the consciousness. In the subconscious you can see the core, the existential loneliness (EL) and the complexes (the 7 spirals that emanate from EL).

Right now, in the Ego development period, your personal development structure consists of a conscious/superconscious/subconscious part, which determine which energies, or life aspects, you are exposed to. The other development structures, that are linked to the other development periods, expose you to other aspects of life.

3. The conscious cycle of evolution

Focus: Awareness and creativity.

Development: This is where your consciousness and your ability to will-directed interaction with life are developed.

What is the conscious evolution?

Conscious evolution has to do with the development of your consciousness. We have seen that the word consciousness covers a principle of life, that is repeated in all the development period.

Right up to the end of the Heart period, the word consciousness covers a will-based interaction with the physical and psychic dimensions, that leads to an increasing ability to distinguish yourself from these dimensions – via a growing awareness of both yourself and the dimension itself.

Figure 6. The evolution of humankind through 2 evolutions.

Each of the different development periods are associated with specific ‘personal development structures’ (shown as spirals).

During the Root period, you learn to differentiate yourself from the physical dimension, developing a form of physical ‘consciousness’ or awareness. Initially, you ‘perceive’ yourself as a physical being, and you are one with the physical dimension. Gradually however, you begin to manipulate it, driven by rudimentary survival instincts.

In the Pre-Ego period, you develop your interaction with the physical dimension and start to become more familiar with the psychic dimension. You integrate into a group and perceive yourself as one with this group. Your interaction with the group triggers the emergence of primitive emotions, and in a sense, it is the group that embodies the ‘psychic dimension’. Your development structure differs from your current one and can almost be seen as containing only a subconscious part. Interestingly, this part will later give birth to the subconscious that is a part of you today.

In the latter half of the period, the first impulses appear to stimulate the emergence of a primitive consciousness from this ‘subconscious’. This leads to the realization that you are not identical to the group, and it gives birth to the individual consciousness.

Just as there are specific laws governing the physical universe, there are distinct rules and laws for the non-physical universe, which ensure the development of our consciousness.

These laws of life ensure that you experience what is necessary for the growth and refinement of your ability to perceive and understand life. Everything you encounter in life is designed to support your development, including the physical aspects of your existence, such as the people you meet.

Conscious evolution involves the development of our consciousness, our conscious interaction with the world and ourselves, and our ability to sense this world. It pertains to the development of your current Life experience. It involves manifestation in the dimensions available to us, and to our ability to create in these dimensions. Behind this manifestation and creation, we find a will-to-life, which fuels your ability to actively participate in it, much like how petrol powers an engine.

In the Ego period, your interaction with the world is a product of your conscious and subconscious relationship with the world. Therefore, your subconscious also plays a role in the development of your consciousness.

Thus, conscious evolution involves our conscious interaction with life, and the development of that interaction. It involves our conscious insight into life/ourselves. Just as the physical evolution is the product of underlying forces that have driven the development of our physical body (and our physical universe), ‘conscious evolution’ can be considered as consisting of forces and laws of life, that lay the groundwork for the continuous development of our      consciousness.

Conscious evolution uses the laws of life associated with the development period

As a means for the development of consciousness, the conscious evolution employs the laws and rules of life, that are associated with a given development period. This applies to all development periods. These laws of life are as tangible as the physical laws of life. For instance, they include the 'Life themes', that I will discuss in the next chapter.

A personal development structure is linked to a specific development period. Its objective is to assist you in progressively enhancing your experience of the life aspects represented by the period. A personal development structure (such as your psyche) persistently presents you with the experiences necessary for your development.

You cannot experience something that you lack the ability to sense, and your development structure serves as your sensory apparatus to life. It thus forms your prerequisite for interacting with life and can be regarded as a pair of glasses through which you view life. However, as you become more adept at experiencing life, the development structure will adapt and change accordingly.

The development structures, and the Life experience facilitated by these structures, are therefore central to our development, and to your current life, and part 2 is therefore dedicated to describing these structures, the focus being on the structure associated to Ego period.

To be conscious is to create and manifest oneself in a Life field

Being aware of a life dimension, i.e., being able to sense it, requires being present in the dimension. Thus, when we are aware of a dimension and are present in it, then we can begin to create in it.

Creation induce change, and through our creations we will influence, and change, the dimension itself. When you therefore become aware of a dimension, i.e. a Life field, it reflects both your own consciousness, and that of other beings.

When I talk about creation, I mean that as soon as we can manifest ourselves in a dimension, then we influence it, and when we influence it, we change it.

Creation in the Root period is different from creation in the Ego period, or in the Heart period. With each development period, we get the ability and the opportunity to create in a new Life field.

Evolution of your present consciousness involves thoughts and feelings

Just as in previous development periods, where you learned to manipulate with, and create in, the physical realm, you are now learning to navigate the non-physical realm, in particularly the psychic Life field. This field is accessed through thoughts and feelings. When you think, you generate thoughts, and when you feel, you generate feelings. These thoughts and feelings do not remain confined to you; they become part of the psychic Life field.

Your thoughts and feelings have an impact on others who are connected to the psychic Life field. In this sense, we all exist within a sea of thoughts and emotions, which I call ‘the psychic Life field’. When you hold negative thoughts, you add negativity to the psychic field. In contrast, your positive thoughts also appear in the field, affecting everyone who interacts with it. The psychic Life field is associated with the Ego development period. It’s the place where thoughts and feelings interconnect during this period.

A Life field can be divided into layers, and any psychic creation will appear in the layer of the psychic Life field that it resonates with the most.

Therefore, negative thoughts cannot reach the same layers of the psychic field as positive thoughts. If you primarily engage with the upper layers of the psychic Life field, you will not be significantly affected by negative thoughts present in the lower layers.

In the conscious evolution, we develop our prerequisites to interact with the current Life field

In the Root period, life was focused on mastering the physical element and manifesting ourselves in it. This process led to changes in our physical bodies, intensifying our sensation of the physical dimension. This provided new opportunities to manifest ourselves, and to create, in this dimension.

Similarly, our psyche, or our current development structure, will undergo changes. You will learn later (in Part 2) how the psyche evolves at the onset of the Ego period, transitioning from an ‘empty vessel’ filled with possibilities and potential, to a container for numerous psychic structures.

One of these ‘structures’ is a boundary. It is a boundary that exist between the conscious and the subconscious, which in turn leads to the creation of your individual consciousness and the development of a more sophisticated subconscious. In the Ego period, the subconscious will come to contain specific ‘structures’, such as complexes, traumas, existential loneliness (EL), hidden talents, etc. Without this boundary, you would be engulfed by the unconscious and unable to develop consciousness.

These conscious and unconscious structures provide you with new opportunities to interact with the world, perceive the world, and develop self-awareness and world-awareness. In the second half of the Ego period, which is also the first half of the Heart period, you begin to develop sensory organs for conscious contact with what I refer to as Heart energies.

The driving force behind the evolution of consciousness

Conscious evolution subjects you to various development periods, each representing a different aspect of life. You are trained to sense these aspects of life, interact with them, and master the Life field they relate to.

But what drives all this? It seems logical that since we possess free will, we have some control over our development. But is it only our conscious living, our self-manifestation, and our ability to create, that determine what we are exposed to and that decide the direction we move in?

The answer is no. As I mentioned earlier, there is another evolution, the superconscious evolution, which has a greater influence in this regard. It is from this evolution that we receive our deepest desire to evolve. This evolution determines the direction of our development. It manifests and determines the laws of life that we all, without exception, must follow. I’ll discuss this more in the next section.

3. The superconscious evolution

Focus: The will to develop.

Development: This is where the superconscious develops.

The superconscious evolution is half a development period further ahead and represents energies that are beyond our current level of consciousness. Thus, we are unable to perceive them with our consciousness, even if we were exposed to them. However, these energies can be sensed through our superconscious.

Our quest for development

The energies of the superconscious evolution fuel our deepest longing for higher aspects of life. This longing eventually manifests itself in our consciousness. The energies from the superconscious evolution drive our will for development, ensuring that there is never a standstill.

While the conscious evolution manages our conscious interaction with life, the superconscious evolution manages the superconscious interaction with life. It is also responsible for creating the motivation and will behind the development of our consciousness. It is crucial to understand that the motivation to develop our consciousness originates from the superconscious.

Since the deepest ‘life-desire’ and ‘life-will’ comes from the superconscious, our consciousness has no influence on our innermost will to develop, and no influence on the direction for it!

The superconscious evolution and our consciousness/subconsciousness

As beings, we are not solely composed of our Ego. We also consist of a personal and collective superconscious, as well as a personal and collective subconscious.

Currently, humanity is being flooded with energies from the superconscious evolution, which are up to half a development period more ‘advanced’ than what we can presently sense with our consciousness.

From your superconscious, Heart energies (and high Ego energies) flow into your being (Fig. 6). From the same superconscious, a will to make these energies conscious also flows. This manifests as an inner desire to experience what you vaguely sense with your consciousness - that there is more to life than what you are presently aware of.

This desire determines the direction for your development. It is accompanied by an inner will (and motivation) from the superconscious, a will that is far stronger than your conscious will.

The will of the superconscious can be compared to a ship in the sea, and the will of your consciousness to a small person on the ship. The small person may be deluded into believing that he can choose to move in any direction. However, seen from above, it becomes clear that he has no influence at all over the overall direction of the ship he is on.

The development of the superconscious

As your consciousness develops, so does your superconsciousness. As it evolves, it can influence your consciousness and subconsciousness with ‘increasingly higher’ energies, including those from different development periods. Just as our current consciousness operates within a space that defines the lowest and highest limits of available energies, the same is true for the superconscious (Figure 7). And just as the entire ‘space of consciousness’ moves upwards during our development, the same applies to the ‘superconscious space’. This means that the energies available to the superconscious change over time.

What structures do we find in the superconscious? Is it as complex as our physical body, which is made up of atoms, molecules, proteins, cells, cellular systems, and organs? Is it as complex as our psyche, with its complexes, Life themes, traumas, etc.? The answer is certainly yes!

My own experiences have shown me that the superconscious is a complex ‘entity’. The word ‘complex’ is, of course, relative, but for most of us, it is a part of you that in complexity many times surpasses both the physical body and the psyche. It’s like describing a universe made up of forces that haven’t yet been discovered.

In the next chapters, you'll hear more about my own discoveries of this part of us.

4. Final remarks

The superconscious and conscious evolution is like Ying and Yang

In this introduction you have learned that there are two great evolutions that take care of the development of all living beings. You have also learned that the development they are responsible for is the development of consciousness and superconsciousness.

As a being, you are made up of your subconsciousness, your consciousness, and your superconsciousness. Your development naturally involves the development of all these ‘parts’ of your person. Your consciousness is, so to speak, in the middle, between the superconscious and the subconscious, both of which have a ‘double structure’ that consists of a personal and a collective part (just as consciousness itself exists as a personal and collective part). The personal part is a direct reflection of your own interaction with life and has to do with you, while the collective part of both the superconscious and the subconscious has to do with the development of humanity. We do have some influence on the ‘speed’ of our development due to our conscious will, but we have no influence on the overall direction since it is determined by something that is beyond the influence of consciousness.

The superconscious and the conscious evolution are like yin and yang; they can combine to form a whole, and each of them functions via, and by means of, each other.

The basic will to live, and the deepest desire for progress, come from the superconscious, which is thereby deeply connected to the development of consciousness. The superconscious is the fundamental driving force behind the development of consciousness.

The superconscious (top right) receives energy from the 'Cosmic Spark' (shown as a star and explained in the next chapter) in all of us. It absorbs the energy through sensory organs (shown as the 3 suns) and then passes it on to consciousness. There the energy will give rise to a personal development structure, of a type that is determined by the development level of the consciousness and the superconsciousness. Both the consciousness (bottom left) and the superconsciousness move within their ‘conscious/superconscious spaces’, but in rare cases may experience direct contact with even higher states (shown as lightnings).
