Our superconsciousness and consciousness
are our connections to the two evolutions,
and together they constitute the recipe
for our own development.
In Figure 5 we saw how our being could be divided into the superconscious, the conscious and the subconscious. To understand how the superconscious works together with consciousness and how it is responsible for its development, we must first look at how we are ‘constructed’ and how we interact with the world (Figure 8).
Figure 8. The superconscious, the conscious and the subconscious.
Our being consists of several parts: a collective and personal superconscious, a collective and personal subconscious, and a collective and personal consciousness that contains the Ego. Each of the different parts contain their own structures.
In this chapter, I will introduce my personality model and continue my analysis of the two evolutions. I will focus on what I call ‘Life themes’, which are associated with both evolutions.
In order for us to relate to the superconscious energies, these energies are transformed into themes called the Life themes.
The Life themes constitute an exciting part of our personality and are involved in many things, from the transfer of superconscious energies to being responsible for the construction of our development structure!
They can be regarded as humanity’s ‘non-physical DNA’.
1. The structure of our being
Before I get into the Life themes, let me first focus on the structure of our being. We must use this knowledge to understand the Life themes.
We have seen that our development structure consists of a conscious part, a subconscious part, and a superconscious part. Each of these parts can be further divided into a personal and collective part. This is shown in Figure 8. The collective superconscious is the place in us where we have direct contact with the source. It can be said that in this part exists a “cosmic spark”, and it is “collective” because it applies to all people.
The content of the personal superconscious, on the other hand, is an expression of your own level of development. Our level of development reflects, for example, which sensory organs that are active in this part of the superconscious and thus which energies we can receive from the collective superconscious.
The cosmic spark contains all energies, and the sensory organs sense a part of these energies, while others remain in the collective superconscious as latent energies.
In the personal part of the subconscious, we find the complexes. They are psychic structures that (most often) contain, in their core, repressed material that you were unable to integrate into your development structure (its conscious part). These complexes are often associated with negative emotions and can be a source of psychological distress. They can be thought of as knots in our psyche that need to be untangled.
Everything that threatens your Life experience, and your identity, is transferred to the subconscious. The ultimate threat is EL. EL represent the ultimate fear of reverting to a past Life experience, which will trigger the ultimate loneliness (from the current Life experience). You have not yet fully outgrown your previous Life experience from the Pre-Ego period, a period where you did not possess an Ego identity and did not experience yourself as an individual being. Because of that there is a place inside you where you are without an Ego-identity. Getting in touch with that place is very ‘dangerous’.
So, EL represents your most fundamental fear, the fear of losing what you perceive as your Ego-identity, your sense of your self.
Currently, you have three different Life experiences existing within you: the Pre-Ego, Ego, and Heart Life experiences. Each is associated with an identity. The Ego Life experience is the dominant one, and therefore the Ego-identity is also the dominant identity. The worst thing that can happen to you is to lose this Life experience. This can happen when the lower Pre-Ego Life experience takes over. Anything that may cause this to happen is repressed.
At the transition from one development period to another, an existential loneliness (EL) is born. All periods have their own existential loneliness. For the most part, I am talking about the Ego existential loneliness. This Ego existential loneliness is still within you, but as you are presently well-rooted in the Ego Life experience, you do not fear (at least not to the same extent as before) that you will lose this Life experience to the Pre-Ego Life experience. It is unlikely that this will happen.
So why evolve at all when the Ego and the Ego-identity are secured? The answer comes from the superconscious. During the entire Ego period, the Heart energy has increased and is now the dominating energy in the superconscious.
When the first glimpses of the Heart Life experience are born in your consciousness, the Heart energies, that already fill up your superconsciousness, will connect to these ‘new-born’ conscious Heart energies and stimulate them. This can lead to what I call a ‘resonance activation’, whereby the conscious Heart energies for a brief time are boosted to a size much larger than their natural size. This will provide you with a first encounter with a new life experience, one that will awaken within you a new desire—a longing for heart energies. Should you choose to embrace this new journey, the rewards will be profound.
The superconscious
In the superconscious we find energies and structures that we are never able to consciously realize, not because they are hidden away, but simply because we do not possess the resources or abilities to perceive this material
with our consciousness.
An important point to note about the superconscious is that it too is evolving, and the structures in this part of our being change over time. The (personal) superconscious mediates contact with the superconscious evolution via sensory organs (in the personal superconscious). These sensory organs are your ‘eyes’ towards the superconscious evolution, towards the Life forces behind it. They are just one example, out of many, of a ‘structure’ undergoing evolution in the superconscious.
The superconsciousness is a complex size,
which is also undergoing an evolution.
If you look at the complexity
of just a single cell,
then the complexity of that dimension,
which has given rise to the cell,
surpass anything you can imagine.
Regarding the structure of the superconscious, it has a personal part that relates to your person and your level of development, and it has a non-personal part that relates to something outside of your person. The latter is the same for all beings, and I call this part “the collective superconscious.”
The superconscious therefore consists of a personal and collective part, just as the subconscious consists of the personal and collective subconscious.
Life themes are important for mediating the contact between the superconscious and the consciousness/subconsciousness. The Life themes are activated by the superconscious, by the energies that the personal superconscious has managed to absorb from the collective superconscious. The actual expression of a Life theme can be manifold, and it is entirely determined by the energy in the personal superconscious that activated them, as well as by your own history and cultural background.
2. The Life themes – mediators of superconscious energy
The connection between your personal subconscious and the collective subconscious can by seen as follows: while your personal subconscious is filled with ‘buildings’ created by the collective subconscious, the content of the buildings is of a completely personal nature. This content reflects your own history, Life experiences, and choices.
The collective subconscious consists of different Life themes, around which the whole development of the psyche is woven. These are themes that originate in the collective subconscious (as an empty form), from where the theme ‘flows’ into the personal subconscious, where it comes to life and assumes a personal expression (tailored to you). From there, it continues to your consciousness, which is influenced and guided by these themes.
Some of the themes in the collective subconscious include the archetypes such as ‘the sage’, ‘the shadow’, ‘the hero’, ‘anima’, ‘animus’, the ‘parents’ theme, ‘the lover’, ‘the magician’, ‘the rebel’, ‘the sorcerer’, and in the Heart period, themes such as ‘unity’, ‘trust in the cosmos’, etc. There is even a theme for religion. These themes are not only present in your personal subconscious but also in the collective subconscious of all humans.
Figure 9. From the superconscious comes the energies that determine which Life themes that will be activated. These Life themes affect your consciousness (especially through the subconscious in which they create the Life theme buildings) according to which the consciousness and subconscious are shaped. The buildings themselves are a result of both the Life theme energy as well as your personal level of development.
The major Life themes, to which your life will conform, are given in advance, but their content and expression varies from person to person.
The Life themes can be regarded as laws, which the development of all people is built around.
The Life themes we know today come into play in the Pre-Ego, Ego, and Heart development periods, as they are all involved in the development of the individual being. Just as a cell’s DNA is directly or indirectly responsible for all the cell’s molecules, building blocks, and structures, so are the Life themes directly or indirectly responsible for the entire structure of the personal psyche and all the structures it contains.
Furthermore, they are responsible for our interaction with the world and for how we live out the energy that originally started as an energy in the superconscious part of us.
Figure 10. From superconscious energy to personal Life experience
A description of how the superconscious energies end up manifesting themselves in a personal Life experience. I have used the Life theme “Religion” as an example.
Life themes are channels for superconscious energies. We have seen that from our superconsciousness we receive energies. These energies do not have concrete content and are energies that must initiate a desire and motivation if you are to become aware of the life aspect that they stand for.
For the energies to cause this desire, two things are required. They require a Life theme that can form the framework for you to start living the energies, and they moreover need to be ‘tailored’ to your person. Only then can you live out these energies.
The function of Life themes is to clothe the impersonal energy of the superconscious with a theme and thereafter channel the superconscious energy to your consciousness in a way that it can be perceived and tailored exactly to who you are.
Life themes vary in strength. Some Life themes are so powerful that all people must respond to them in one way or another and must live out their energy in their life. Other Life themes only play a minor role in your life and only during certain periods of your life.
Right now, most people are affected by both high Ego energies and Heart energies from the superconscious.
What happens when the superconsciousness sends energy towards you?
Let’s say it’s a Heart energy. A Heart energy influx from the superconscious will generally lead to an increased desire to experience that there is a meaning to life that goes beyond ourselves. All Life themes activated by this energy will therefore bear this mark.
Therefore, if the Heart energy is channelled through the religious Life theme, it will be imperative for you to seek the meaning of life through religion, but in a way that does not strengthen your Ego but rather increases your connection with your creator and other living beings.
Compared to Heart energy, Ego energy will tend to be channelled through other Life themes, or through similar Life themes with a very different result. For example, Ego energy channelled through the Life theme ‘religion’ could emerge as a religious emotion that appeals to the Ego, which in turn could lead to the formation of a cult, with you at the centre of it (Figure 11).
To summarize, there is superconscious energy, and then there are Life themes. The same themes can be activated by different superconscious energies and initiate different desires in us, but of the same ‘tone’, namely the tone that they stand for (after all, the religious Life theme will always be a religious theme, no matter what energy activates it).
Then there is the personal subconscious that the energy must eventually pass through to put on ‘a personality cloak’ and be able to motivate the Ego, which is so closely linked to your subconscious and your life story.
Just as the Ten Commandments set rules for how life should be lived, Life themes also define our attitude towards life. For example, the strong attachment to mother and father is present only because there is a Life theme for it, and one purpose for this theme is to ensure the survival of the species.
Other themes include ‘the sage’, ‘the shadow’, ‘the hero’, etc., and as I will show you later in the book, there are themes such as ‘community’, ‘trust in the cosmos’, ‘meaning of life’, etc. The way we live our lives may allow these Life themes to play a constructive role, but our lives can also lead to a conflict with them, which can cause problems and lead to repressions and complexes.
Blocking a Life theme energy leads to the complexes we find in your subconscious. The connection between Life themes and our way of living is an important topic. The structures found in the subconscious (complexes, repressions, etc.) reflect the degree to which Life theme energies are in harmony with the way we live our lives.
Figure 11. The path of the superconscious energy.
In the Ego period, you receive both Ego and Heart energies from the superconscious. These different energies of the superconscious can activate the same Life theme, which can thereby be clothed with different energies and have different expressions. The activated Life theme will then flow into the personal subconscious and apply another clothing, corresponding to the personal story of the individual in question. Finally, the clothed energy will then reach the consciousness, which will allow the person to live out the energy.
Thus, Life themes lie behind all the structures of the personal subconscious. All complexes, without exception, arise from a conflict with an active Life theme.
When a Life theme has been activated by superconscious energies, it is crucial that the Life theme energy finds a natural place in your life. As mentioned above, when the energy of an activated Life theme can be manifested in your life, then a deep sense of happiness arises within you. If, on the other hand, it is blocked, it may give rise to an inner lack of balance and the formation of complexes and traumas. This also means that the deeper meaning with complexes and traumas is (eventually) to ensure a balance with the active Life theme.
A crucial part of this experience (lack of inner balance and complex formation) is a lack of self-acceptance, because deep down you know that when there is no balance between your superconscious and the way you live your life, the ‘fault’ always lies with yourself.
Life themes create social structures and whole communities. They are found not only in our personal development structure but also in large structures such as societies. A society is built around Life themes. The family Life theme, which constitutes the centre of most societies, is one example. The Life theme ‘Persona’ is another example of a Life theme that is central to society. The religious Life theme is also a Life theme that has permeated all social structures for as long as there have been people. Note however, that this does not mean that there is no real substance in religions, but simply that there is also a Life theme that motivates us to realize this aspect of life.
The Life themes describing how we should live our lives (mother, father, family, religion, hero, etc.), are thus behind the laws on which a society is built.
In some cases, it happens that there is a misbalance between a society and the manifestation of important Life themes. When this happens, i.e., when a society (or a social structure) represses important Life themes and does not allow their realization, then conflict arises that can lead to ‘society-complexes, society-traumas, society-neuroses, society-anger’, etc. The purpose of this is to help the society, and the citizens in it, to live in balance with the active and most important Life themes. The complexes of a society is the people reacting to an oppressive society.
From psychology, we know that it is important to embrace the complexes and thereby grow and change, and the same applies to a society. When the complexes/people reunite with consciousness/society, then the consciousness/society changes and grow.
3. Final words
We have seen that Life themes play a central role in our lives. They set the inner framework for our personal lives, and they also determine the outer framework that is responsible for social structures. Life themes mediate contact with the superconscious. They represent such a powerful force that a conflict with an active Life theme has serious consequences, leading to complexes and traumas in the subconscious.
Your inner experience of the incident leads to the conflict. It is this experience that can be in balance or in conflict with a Life theme. Conversely, living in balance with the Life themes has consequences. Here, the consequence is happiness, joy, and meaningfulness, and this applies every single time that a Life theme energy manages to experience a free flow into your life. This experience of happiness comes from contact with your superconscious. This contact is intensified when the energies from it can flow freely into your life and be manifested there.
In the next chapter, we will take a closer look at this contact to understand why it is so crucial for our happiness. We shall see that it is this contact that has always pushed us forward.
